Who Is This For?
I tested the Latitude 9450 as my daily work laptop for a week. It’s built for enterprise professionals who value two things above all else: battery life and webcam quality.
- Executives and consultants: The 5 MP webcam makes you look sharp on Teams and Zoom. I noticed the difference immediately versus my usual 1080p camera.
- All-day travelers: I got 12+ hours on a charge. That means leaving the charger in the hotel room.
- Pen users: The 2-in-1 hinge lets you annotate documents and sketch in meetings. I used tablet mode more than I expected.
If you type all day and want the best keyboard, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon is still the better choice. The Latitude’s keyboard is fine, but it’s not ThinkPad-level.
Battery Life
This is the Latitude 9450’s defining feature, and the numbers are real. Intel’s Lunar Lake processor sips power, and the 78 Wh battery delivered:
- 12-14 hours of web browsing and document editing
- 10-11 hours of video conferencing
- 8-9 hours of mixed heavy use
That’s 3 to 4 hours more than the ThinkPad X1 Carbon in my testing. I worked a full day at a conference, took notes, joined video calls, and still had 20% left at dinner. That kind of battery life changes how you work.
Webcam
The 5 MP front-facing camera with IR and human presence detection is the best webcam on any laptop I’ve tested. Period. My video calls looked noticeably sharper than my colleagues on standard 1080p webcams. The proximity sensor auto-locks the laptop when I walk away, which is a nice security touch for shared offices.
Display
The 14-inch QHD+ (2560x1600) IPS touch panel is sharp and usable. But it lacks the OLED wow factor of the X1 Carbon. Colors are accurate at 100% sRGB, and 120Hz makes scrolling smooth. The 2-in-1 hinge lets you fold it into tent or tablet mode, which I found useful for presentations and whiteboard-style note taking.
The Bottom Line
The Latitude 9450 is the endurance champion. It outlasts everything in the business laptop class and has the best webcam in the category. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon has a better keyboard and a better display option less, so the Latitude only wins if battery life or the 2-in-1 form factor are your top priorities. For me, the battery life alone justified the price.
